A Day at the Faire OR A Visit with the Miss Woodwises OR Brother's Madame
It is, I fear, old news that I relate today but as The News was so grand as it happened, I feel I must catch up before Forging Ahead into new. You see, the Grand Faire was in our small part of the country again and having gone last year to find the Amusements most Entertaining, I was set on taking the trip again with what Good Friends I could manage to persuade to accompany me. I met A Difficulty however in the form of the Young Woman whom Older Brother had brought back with him from The City. She was truly a Modern Woman, though I must admit I found the Town Fashions that she wore to be on the verge of Scandalous, and certainly unsuited to Country Life. Mademoiselle Vogue was kind enough in her own way, but I couldn't help but feel she didn't care much for our Homespun ways- she Perpetually Hung on Brother's arm as if she could not bear to be separated from him (which was Charming at first, but allowed little chance for conversation with either). When not with Brother she Flitted About like a small bird, poking into things and dancing about doing her Exercises unless she was frightened by a butterfly or some other small flying insect, in which case she would fly off to brother again. I do not wish to Speak Ill of anyone, so I will say only that I found her Sweet, if Vain, and Quite Intelligent, if not in the way she dressed. Pleasant enough- but I did not see in her the Sister I would hope to find in either of my brothers' brides.
In either case, it was Brother's indecision that led to The Difficulties of getting to the fair, and in the end it was only the Dear Miss Woodwises who were properly invited, and who showed up for the evening. We did not Partake of any of the great mechanical rides that swirl and twirl those brave enough to try them as Lizzy is shy of such things, and we thought we might go on another day with more companions (though I am Sad to Say we did not manage to). However, we did have the Most Marvelous Time wandering about and gawking at all the Wonders and enjoying the Faire Foods that are such Terrible Messes and Guilty Pleasures all at once! We also amused ourselves looking at the little wares booths, which had Lovely Dresses and other Fine Vestments which we took our time pouring over, until dear Miss Indianna finally set herself on a dress, at which time the hour was such that we returned to our homes (Miss Woodwise kindly giving me a ride in her Motor Carriage).
I slept well that night Friends, for it had been a Marvelous Day!
