A Lady Returns OR A Lady Departs

It is with some Melancholy that I write today, as I can not help but think of my Impending Voyage and Imminent Arrival at my Ivory Tower. It is passing strange to me that I can be Leaving my Home, and yet Returning to Home at the same time. After four years of Education at the Tower, it is impossible for me to regard my School with anything less than Great Affection, and having a Room of My Own this term makes the prospect of returning so pleasant, and yes, Homey. Of course, my True Home will always be with my dear Family, at our dear little Sweet Autumn Manor in the country. There is nothing that can compare with the Closeness one feels for the place she Grew Up, for one learns (as no one else can, for a child is both small enough to see everything little, and grows large enough to see the top of things) every minute detail of every corner of the house, and the Proper Place for every Bobble or Knickknack. In the Country, this Knowledge of Place extends to the grounds as well- I could tell you the feel of the bark on every tree, the scent of every flower, and when and where they shall pop from the ground or unfurl from the branch. I know the smell of the earth and dry grass on the hill where I have spent many a day playing with my brothers as Pirates of the Great Grass Sea. I could Wax Poetic for many pages on my childhood, so I shall save it for a rainy day at school- a rainy day that may come soon in fact! The Specialists tell us that a Large and Terrible Storm is on its way, and is set to hit The City by the Sea on our first night at the Tower. A Storm is similar to a departure to an arrival- Thrilling and Fearsome all at once.

I am not yet quite Ready for the trip, but my bags stand in a corner of my room, mouths open like so many little birds, wanting fed. I have tossed them a few bright caterpillar scarves and socks but they are no where near full, and their cries echo in my head when drift to sleep. You see? The thought of leaving has turned me into one large Flight of Fancy! I am full of Regrets for all I Meant to do this summer that went unfinished, but I must now lay such Regrets behind be; I am set on making this Final Year (oh, how strange that sounds to me still) a time for Getting Things Done. I must look ahead now to my Next Adventure in life, and while still enjoying the final steps of my current path, I must Make Ready for Crossroads, and meet them head on, come what may!

It is with a Song in My Head, Pennies in my Pockets, and Fond Memories Tucked in my Heart that I leave you today Friends, for I have miles to go before I sleep.

  3. My Dear Miss Morewit,
Please allow me to express my earnest desire to attend both you and Master Fox at a gathering of some sort with Miss Woodwise, Miss Indianna, and Master Merritop at a time and place agreeable to all over the upcoming holiday season. It will be quite agreeable to meet together after such a long separation while you young people have been away at university. I am quite sure we shall all have such merry tales to tell. I mention Master Merritop as part of our group as he has expressed an interest in Miss Indianna and is frequently among us in pursuit of her. Miss Woodwise will be arriving late tomorrow and we are quite anxious to see her for we've been deprived of her company since August when she departed for Virginia.

  4. Dear, dear Lady Woodwise!

Your Kind Sentiments are returned ten-fold! It would be with greatest pleasure that Master Fox and I would attend a gathering to reunite us with your Wonderful Family, for we are enormously fond of you all and Master Merritop. I must say I quite approve of his Courtship, for I daresay he could find no Finer Lady than Miss Indianna in all the county or those surrounding.

As for time and place, we are Regretfully occupied on the day of Thanksgiving (as I am sure your family is as well) but I can think of nothing I would rather do on any of our remaining days at home.

My Best Regards to all the Woodwise Family, and please pass along my love Most Especially to my Bosom Friend Miss Woodwise.

  5. My Dear Lady Morewit,

You are too kind but your affection for our family is truly returned. Master Merritop has been attempting to arrange a gathering at the Cottage this afternoon. Would that be agreeable to you? Perhaps you could contact Miss Woodwise by wire. Alas, she'll be returning to Virginia tomorrow....
