The Merriest Season

It has come to my attention that when I write, it is usually in regards to my arrival or leavetaking from my dear home, so I will not bore you with the Usual Talk, except say that once again it fills my heart with joy to be Reunited with the Family, and to see Snow to fit the Cold. I have arrived however, to find the estate in mourning rather than engaging in the Usual Festivities that precede the Holidays. Finnegan, our Dear Faithful Companion, had fallen terribly ill. I secretly Hope for a Christmas Miracle, but he is suffering from a Cancer and it seems that all we can do is offer him some Small Comforts. Because of this Shadow over the household, I have taken it upon myself to bring the Holiday Spirit to our home.

As we have no maid or manservant, I have employed myself in the Gathering of Greenery, collecting fronds of fir and holly, and many sprigs of the Bright and Jolly winterberry. I have a mind to fashion a good many Garlands and Festive Wreathes, which I shall use to dress the doors and entrances. We have somehow amassed two evergreens this year, and rather than waste the life of a tree, I am Endeavoring to have both set up, for surely we have enough baubles to Decorate another tree! It is my intent to spend this Break from Studies filling the home with Music, Baking, and Cheer, and hopefully calling on some of the Dear Friends that I have Much Missed.

I must now attend to some of these Duties, so I wish you all Love and Fair Winds for now!

A Lady Returns for a Week of Thanksgiving

While I arrived yesterday, today is my true First Day home, and it is Glorious! This morning I was met with a perfectly brewed mug of Coffee, a lovely scramble of eggs accompanied with toast slathered in Homemade apple butter, while all the while Mellow Irish tunes fill the kitchen. Such a dream of Happy Home I had Imagined, but it was so Perfect that I had to wonder if I had crawled out of my dear bed or not! My friend from University has returned home with me, as she was not traveling the long distance to spend the Holiday at her own home. Miss Vendeville was a welcome addition to our Family, and assisted us in the playing of A Great Many Games including a few rounds of the marvelous game of Pente. I fear I am Too Proud of my Skills at said game, but I do often win and it gives me no Small Pleasure. However, I know I must make effort to be more Demure or I shall have no one to play with! While we played, Mother began a batch of pumpkin pies, and offered us a bowl of Freshly Roasted pumpkin seeds that were glazed in some mixture of sweet and salt that made them a Perfect Snack.

It is beyond my powers to express how Thankful I am to be returned to the Estate, and to be able to spend my Leave from my Studies with my Dear Family, so I will simply say that this shall be a Week full of Thanks and Giving.

Love to All,
